Entrustment of Personal Information Processing
Entrustment of personal information processing refers to the delegation of certain tasks to specialized contractors to provide smooth services to "Members." 메디파나뉴스 = 박선혜 기자] 인공지능(AI) 기반 뇌신경질환 전문 소프트웨어 개발사 휴런(대표 신동훈·신명진)은 자사의 치매 분석보조 소프트웨어 'Veuron-Brain-pAb(이하 pAb)'이 지난달 26일 유럽 CE 인증을 받았다고 3일 밝혔다.
CE 인증은 유럽 연합(EU)의 안전·건강·환경·소비자 보호 지침을 모두 충족하는 제품에 부여되는 통합 인증 마크다. pAb은 올 1월 국내 뇌신경질환분야 의료 AI 영상 진단 소프트웨어로는 처음으로 미국 식품의약국(FDA) 승인을 받았다.
의료계에 따르면 치매는 알츠하이머병의 주요 원인 가운데 하나인 ‘베타 아밀로이드’ 단백질의 정량화가 어려워, 단순 감별 검사나 예후 검사로 진단을 수행해왔다.
휴런의 치매 진단 소프트웨어 pAb는 베타 아밀로이드 단백질의 표준 섭취 계수율(SUVR)을 정량화한 게 특징이다. 양전자 단층 촬영(PET) 영상에서 SUVR을 시각화한 자료와 자기 공명(MRI) 영상을 바탕으로 뇌 안에 쌓인 베타 아밀로이드 상태를 숫자 및 영상으로 보여주는 것이다.
pAb가 뇌 내 베타 아밀로이드의 침착도(쌓인 정도)를 정량화하면 AI가 양·음성 여부를 판단해 바이오마커로 쓰일 수 있도록 한다. 휴런은 이를 통해 ▲임상 시험 환자 스크리닝 ▲치료 효과 정량적 분석 ▲임상 시험 성공률 향상 ▲임상 시험 비용 절감 등의 효과가 있을 것으로 보고 있다.
휴런은 pAb를 치매 신약 개발 및 임상 시험에 활용할 수 있는 영상 바이오마커로 활용할 방법도 개발하고 있다.
국립중앙치매센터에 따르면 글로벌 치매 치료제 시장은 100억달러(10조원) 이상으로, 뇌신경 질환 분야 최대 규모로 알려진다. 하지만 정확도가 높은 바이오마커의 부재로 신약 개발 성공률은 크게 저조한 것으로 전해진다.
휴런의 pAb은 치매 병세의 정량화가 가능하다는 점에서 바이오마커로써 활용성이 높다. 또 유럽에는 로슈(스위스), 노바티스(스위스), 사노피(프랑스), GSK(영국), 아스트라제네카(영국), 바이엘(독일) 등 다국적 제약사가 포진해 있어, CE 인증을 확보한 pAb는 유럽 진출에 유리할 것으로 전망된다.
pAb는 보건복지부 연구 중심 병원 육성 R&D 사업 지원을 받은 가천대학교 길병원 노영 교수팀과 휴런이 함께 개발했다. 2020년 7월 국내 식품의약품안전처에서 2등급 허가를 받았다.
휴런 홍보 담당자는 "국내 의료 AI 영상 소프트웨어 최초로 FDA 승인을 받은 데 이어 유럽 CE 인증까지 받게 돼 기쁘다"며 "앞으로 더 정밀한 치매 진단을 위해 타우 단백질, 뇌 위축도 등을 통한 종합진단 솔루션의 개발 및 인허가에 힘쓸 것"이라고 말했다.
