Entrustment of Personal Information Processing
Entrustment of personal information processing refers to the delegation of certain tasks to specialized contractors to provide smooth services to "Members." Personal information is processed only within the scope entrusted under the responsibility of the "Company." The "Company" carefully reviews whether the entrusted contractors have sufficient capabilities to protect "Members'" personal information.

[AI혁명] 뇌졸중 '골든타임' AI로 지킨다

뇌혈관이 막혀서 발생하는 뇌경색, 뇌혈관의 파열로 피가 나는 뇌출혈을 통틀어 뇌졸중이라고 한다. 뇌졸중을 겪는 환자가 매년 10만명 이상이다. 의료계에서는 뇌졸중의 ‘골든타임’을 4시간30분으로 본다. 뇌는 신체의 모든 것을 관장하는 부위다. 이 골든타임을 놓치면 장애가 발생하는 등 큰 후유증이 생기거나 사망으로 이어질 가능성도 있다. 그야말로 시간이 곧 생명이다.
그러나 현실적으로 골든타임을 지키지 못하는 경우가 많다. 고려대의료원은 “뇌졸중의 골든타임을 지키는 환자는 30~40%뿐”이라는 분석을 내놓기도 했다. ‘이 정도면 괜찮겠지’라고 생각하는 환자 부주의도 있지만 만성적인 인력난 문제가 크다. 지난해 서울아산병원의 간호사가 근무 중 뇌출혈로 쓰러졌다가 관련 의료진이 없어 숨진 안타까운 일도 있었다. 뇌를 관할하는 신경외과는 기피순위 1,2위를 다투는 대표적인 ‘마이너과’로 분류된다.
의료진을 돕는 뇌졸중 AI(인공지능) 솔루션을 내놓은 기업이 있다. 소프트웨어 기업 ‘휴런’이다. 휴런의 뇌졸중 통합 진단보조 AI 솔루션은 최근 식품의약품안전처로부터 3등급 허가를 받았다. 이런 솔루션을 제공하는 기업은 국내에선 휴런이 처음이다. 휴런은 “뇌졸중 보조 AI 솔루션은 이제 태동하는 단계”라며 “우리 솔루션은 세계적으로 봐도 선도적인 기술”이라고 했다. 우수한 기술력을 인정받아 그간 338억원의 투자를 유치했다.
휴런의 뇌졸중 AI 솔루션은 뇌출혈인지 뇌경색인지 판단을 내리는 ‘휴런 ICH’, 뇌경색일 경우 구체적으로 어느 부위에 문제가 발생했는지 파악할 수 있는 ‘휴런 ELVO’, 뇌경색이 얼마나 심각한지 점수로 산출하는 ‘휴런 ASPECTS’ 등 3가지 소프트웨어를 통합한 솔루션이다. 각각의 솔루션은 모두 임상단계를 거쳐 실전 적용을 앞두고 있다. 이를 위해 아주대병원·경기도의료원 안성병원과 MOU(업무협약)도 체결했다.
휴런의 솔루션은 ‘비조영 CT’ 사진만으로 뇌출혈, 뇌경색 여부를 판단할 수 있다는 것이 가장 큰 장점이다. 현재는 조영제 주사를 투입하는 ‘조영 CT’를 촬영해야 정확한 판단이 가능하다. 그러나 조영제 주사를 넣으면 혈관이 팽창하기 때문에 뇌출혈 가능성이 있는 환자는 상황이 더 악화될 수 있다. 비조영 CT만으로 AI가 수분내로 판단을 내려 이런 위험부담을 줄이는 동시에 ‘골든타임’을 지킬 수 있도록 도와준다. 뇌출혈로 판단되면 바로 긴급 수술로 들어가면 되고, 뇌경색으로 판단되면 AI가 막힌 부위가 어딘지도 정확히 알려주기 때문에 응급처치를 빠르게 진행할 수 있다. AI 솔루션을 이미 도입한 영국에서는 치료 소요시간을 1시간 줄이고, 환자 예후가 3배 높아졌다는 연구결과(NHS 보고서)도 있다.
휴런의 솔루션은 90%가 넘는 정확성을 갖췄다. 이런 성과를 인정받아 SCI급 국제학술지인 JNIS에 게재되기도 했다. 휴런의 의료 AI 기술은 이뿐만이 아니다. 앞서 세계 최초 MRI 기반 파킨슨병 진단보조 AI 소프트웨어 ‘휴런 IPD’도 개발했다. 미국과 유럽 의료당국의 인증도 받은 제품이다. 이를 포함해 휴런은 10여개가 넘는 솔루션을 보유하고 있다.
뇌와 관련된 질병 치료와 AI와의 접목을 주도한 이는 신동훈 휴런 대표다. 가천대 길병원 신경과 교수인 그는 보건복지부 연구과제를 수행하면서 AI 기술을 접했고, 환자들에게 도움을 주기 위해 창업을 결심했다. 그때가 2017년이다. 현재 직원은 50여명에 이른다. 이 중 R&D 분야 직원이 절반이 넘는다. 신 대표는 교수직을 병행하며 사업을 이어가고 있다.
신 대표는 “뇌졸중 AI 솔루션은 의료 접근성이 낮은 지역 사회에 뇌졸중 조기 진단과 환자 생명을 살리는 데 기여할 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 크다"며 “앞으로 휴런은 전국 의료 현장에서 활약할 수 있도록 다양한 협업을 모색할 것”이라고 했다.
