Heuron Partners with Tsinghua University for Parkinson’s Disease Research

2024-05-30

Heuron, a medical AI startup focused on neurological disorders based in South Korea, has initiated a research collaboration with Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, as of the 21st.

Under this research agreement, the two institutions will work together for the next two years using Heuron’s Parkinson’s disease diagnostic AI solutions, Heuron IPD and Heuron NI. The research will involve applying Heuron IPD and Heuron NI to 3T and 5T MRI machines at Tsinghua University to evaluate the performance of Heuron's Susceptibility Map Weighted Imaging (SMWI) technique compared to the traditional Susceptibility Weighted Imaging (SWI) method.

Professor Hua Guo from Tsinghua University, a lworld-renowned authority in the field of MRI,, will participate in this research.

Dr. Donghoon Shin, CEO of Heuron, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Tsinghua University, one of the most active institutions in Parkinson’s disease research worldwide. We hope this will be an excellent opportunity to rigorously test and further enhance the performance of our Parkinson’s disease solutions.”

Heuron IPD and Heuron NI, the focal point of this research, are unique AI solutions that predict Parkinson’s disease by analyzing the damage to dopaminergic neurons in the nigrosome region based on brain MRI scans. Heuron IPD and Heuron NI use SMWI to automatically detect and visualize the nigrosome region, providing analysis results with high sensitivity and specificity of 94% and 91%, respectively, using MRI alone, without the need for PET imaging.
